Feats of Manliness #1

For this next series I decided to move from adventure to the finer aspects of raw, rugged and rampant manhood.

Pictured above is the 1863 bare-fisted bout between Jacob “Boot Jack” McCullen and Paddy “Ham Fist” O’Flynn on the grounds of the county courthouse in New Castle, Delaware.  The fight lasted one hour and five minutes with a knock-out blow finally being delivered by McCullen resulting in a broken jaw for O’Flynn.  The match was one of the most savage ever seen at the time and led to a temporary law being passed forbidding “fisticuffs between mustachioed, bare-chested gentlemen in public for monetary gain.”  McCullen staggered away from the prizefight with four dollars in winnings.
